News of Interest

Supreme Court guts affirmative action, effectively ending race-conscious admissions.

As news broke out about the Supreme Court's decision to gut affirmative action and effectively end race-conscious admissions, the Latino community was overcome with a sense of profound disappointment and disbelief. For decades, affirmative action has been a crucial tool in addressing historical inequalities and fostering diversity in higher education. This decision strikes at the heart of our fight for equal representation and opportunities. Latinx students, who have long faced systemic barriers and discrimination, relied on affirmative action to level the playing field and pursue their dreams. The gutting of this policy undermines the progress we have made and solidifies the notion that race should not be a factor in fostering inclusivity. It is a disheartening setback that calls for steadfast advocacy and determination in our ongoing struggle for equity and justice.
